State Lawmakers, Racial Justice Advocacy Groups Call for Solutions to Deep Disparities in Health, Economic Security and Connectivity in Illinois

AARP Illinois, Asian Americans Advancing Justice – Chicago, The Chicago Urban League, and The Resurrection Project will proudly launch the “Disrupt Disparities” report on how racial disparities keep people from living longer, healthier, and more productive lives.

AARP Illinois commends state legislators for passing the Predatory Loan Prevention Act, which will prohibit lenders from charging exorbitant interest rates that harm Illinoisans 50+, especially those on low and fixed incomes

As legislators consider a collection of bills during the lame-duck session, AARP IL applauds, supports and appreciates the efforts of the Illinois Black Caucus for addressing disparities related to economic access, healthcare, education, and criminal justice.

AARP Illinois is pushing lawmakers to improve conditions in long-term care facilities. Key legislative priorities include calling for regular COVID-19 testing and adequate personal protective equipment, better telecommunication options for caregivers and families, heightened accountability for nursing homes, and transparency on state and federal funding that goes to facilities.
