August 17th Social Security and Women Summit

The Social Security and Women Summit luncheon was held yesterday at Chicago's Union League Club. It was a joint venture between AARP and the National Committee designed to bring awareness to the importance of safeguarding Social security's future by finding commonsense, non-partisan solutions to update the program.

Speakers included Romina Boccia - fiscal and economic expert at The Heritage Foundation, Nancy LeaMond - AARPs Community, State & National Affairs Leader, Max Richtman - President and CEO of the National Committee to Preserve Social Security and Medicare, Diana Rickert - Vice President of Communications for the Illinois Polidy Institute, and Terry Savage - nationally recognized expert on personal finance, the economy and the markets.

 

Speakers and panelists focused on women and their unique concerns given such things a life expectancy, the wage gap, time away from work to raise children, and acting as caregivers. Discussions focused on challenges facing Social Security, solutions to those challenges and the effect on women.
