Fight to the Finish - Take Action Now to Stand Up for Older Adults in Illinois

Join the Fight for Older Adults with AARP IL

With just days left of legislative session for Illinois lawmakers, AARP Illinois is fighting hard on behalf of its 1.7 million members on issues important for older adults.

Help us fight to the finish and take action below:

House Bill 3308 to Protect Access to Telehealth

Without legislative action from the Illinois Senate, seniors will abruptly lose access to critical healthcare services they have received through telehealth from their trusted doctor and health care provider during the COVID-19 pandemic. Protect telehealth access for Illinois seniors NOW.  Call  1-844-220-5552 and urge your Illinois Senator to vote yes to HB 3308.

Senate Bill 2137 Nursing Home Virtual Visitation - Stop Social Isolation

SB 2137 would connect nursing home residents virtually with family members, loved ones, and to religious or recreational activities when in-person visits are prohibited or restricted due to federal or state rule or guidance.

There should not be any hesitation from elected officials to act now to offer a simple, humane source of comfort for these residents – access to the voices and faces of the people they love – at a time when they feel most alone

Contact your legislator and tell them to vote YES for SB 2137 via our toll-free hotline at 1-844-226-1190.

Utility issues - Demand transparency, accountability and no rate hikes

While legislators are looking to pass another enormous energy bill that will cost ratepayers and bailout utility companies, AARP Illinois is standing with the residential customers who demand their voices be heard.

The rate schemes that only benefit the utility companies, bailouts for nuclear plants, forced electrification, and increased rate caps for ratepayers are just a few reasons that electric bills will steadily increase on the citizens who can least afford it.

HB 117: Expand Secure Choice to Help Workers Save for Retirement

Illinois Secure Choice is a state-facilitated retirement program that makes it easy to save for retirement. Since launching in 2018, the program has brought retirement savings access to workers in every county across Illinois.

AARP Illinois worked hard to support Secure Choice because we know that helping people ages 50 and older to improve their quality of life as they age does not just mean helping people who are near or currently in retirement. It means we are looking out for those at all stages of their careers who will retire in the future.”

Click here to Tweet a legislator and tell them to approve HB 117, and bring nearly 1 million more Illinois workers the ability to save for retirement at work.

SB 2244: Expand Illinois' Property Tax Deferral Program

AARP Illinois believes that every older adult should have the right to age comfortably wherever they choose --- and to do that, there must be safe, affordable housing options, including the ability to remain in our own homes even as property values and taxes continue to increase.

That’s why this session, we are lobbying on changes to Illinois’ property tax deferral program, which allows homeowners with modest incomes, many of whom are people of color, to borrow money from the State to pay property taxes, and then pay it back at a reasonable rate over a longer period of time. We are working to expand eligibility for this program to cover more older Illinoisans.

Let your legislator know this is important to you. Click to Tweet and tell them to vote for SB 2244.
