The Illinois Commerce Commission is currently considering proposals from Peoples Gas and Ameren Illinois that would raise utility rates for residential customers like you.

Peoples Gas Rate Hike

If the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) approves Peoples Gas' request for a $402 million rate hike and you are a Peoples Gas customer, your gas bill will increase by almost $12 each month, or about $142 a year.

Sign the petition to oppose Peoples Gas' rate hike here.

BREAKING NEWS: At AARP’s urging, the Illinois Commerce Commission will hold a public hearing to hear from you about Peoples Gas proposal to raise residential rates. Attend the hearing to tell commissioners how the proposed increase will affect you and your family. Can you afford to pay $142 more in gas bills in 2024?

Ameren Gas Rate Hike

If the Illinois Commerce Commission (ICC) approves Ameren’s request and you are an Ameren customer, your electric bill will increase by $300 a year in 2027.  This hike will be phased in starting in 2024 when you will see your yearly bill spike by $75 annually

AARP is fighting against Ameren Illinois’ proposal to raise your rates. As a formal intervenor with the ICC on behalf of Illinois residents 50 plus, we will oppose rate increases that benefit Ameren’s bottom line on the backs of customers like you.

But we need your help.  Sign the petition to oppose Ameren Illinois’ proposal to raise electric rates for residential customers by $1.3 billion over the next four years.
