As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older adults—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.

Crypto ATM fraud is on the rise. AARP has successfully backed new laws to protect consumers in at least 14 other states and is pushing for similar legislation in Indiana.

New AARP caregiving data released today, Caregiving in the U.S. 2025: Caring Across States, finds that 24% of adults in Indiana — approximately 1.2 million people — are family caregivers, providing largely unpaid and unsupported care to older parents, spouses, and other loved ones. According to a recent AARP Poll of older Hoosiers, the race for U.S. Senate in Indiana continues to be a close one.
Results of Senate Matchup to be Released on Sept. 19
AARP Indiana recently conducted two separate tele-town halls with both major party candidates for U.S. Senate. Senator Joe Donnelly participated on September 10, and Mike Braun participated on September 12. The forums were a part of AARP’s “Be the Difference. Vote” campaign.
On September 11th, AARP Indiana volunteers took part in meaningful activities throughout the communities of Fishers, Gary, Fort Wayne, and Evansville. Whether it was volunteering at a local food bank or helping to harvest produce to help combat food insecurity, volunteers showed that AARP Cares.
At AARP, we have a proud 32-year history of non-partisan voter engagement, providing voters with information on where the candidates stand on issues important to our members and their families, so they can make their own decisions on Election Day.

This year all Indiana congressional seats, along with a U.S. Senate seat, are on the ballot. All 100 seats in the state House of Representatives and 25 Senate seats are up for election. The voter registration deadline is Tuesday, Oct. 9. Absentee-in-person voting is available beginning Wednesday, Oct. 10, at county election board offices.
