AARP Kansas honors six individuals with a combined 60 years of service for their volunteerism, leadership, and advocacy. The organization presented the Annual Andrus Award and Kansas Volunteer Excellence Awards during a recent two-day volunteer recognition and training event.
AARP Kansas has invited Hell’s Kitchen (Season Three) winner and celebrity Chef Rock Harper to Kansas City to demonstrate how to prepare healthy meals in order to prevent or help control diabetes. Chef Harper will be in Overland Park at the Kansas City Culinary Institute, 7920 Santa Fe Drive, on Saturday, December 7, 2013 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for the meal preparation and tasting.
AARP Kansas Director Maren Turner responded to an order released today by the Kansas Corporation Commission granting Westar Energy, Inc. a $30.7 million rate increase. Westar had sought a $31.7 million increase which would have raised residential electric rates by between $7.50 and $15 per month.
