AARP Kansas has invited Hell’s Kitchen (Season Three) winner and celebrity Chef Rock Harper to Wichita to conduct a hands-on class on how to prepare healthy meals in order to prevent diseases that are related to obesity. Chef Harper will be in Wichita at the Beech Activity Center, 9710 E. Central, on Saturday, August 2, 2014 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. for the meal preparation and tasting.
WASHINGTON — On the eve of Medicare’s 49th anniversary, AARP introduces a new Medicare Q & A Tool that provides consumers with easy-to-understand answers to commonly asked questions on insurance plan choices, coverage, and costs. The free online tool helps people understand eligibility requirements, gives useful information on how Medicare works, and explains when they may enroll.
People age 65 and older are more prone to heat-related problems, says the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, because their bodies don’t adjust as well to changes in temperature. Older people are also more likely to have a chronic condition that can affect their ability to deal with high heat, especially if they don’t have air conditioning at home.

Customers of Black Hills Energy may soon be paying a higher monthly bill for their natural gas. Black Hills is asking the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) to approve a rate increase that would up customers bills by $4.17 per month.
But more must be done to improve long-term services and supports, especially in the area of quality care
