AARP Louisian a has announced that State Representative Helena Moreno is the recipient of the 2016 Legislator of the Year Award for championing issues that improve the quality of life for older Louisianans.
On Tuesday, Nov. 29 AARP Louisiana presented State Senator Yvonne Colomb with the 2016 Legislator of the Year Award for championing issues that improve the quality of life for older Louisianans.
Nearly 660,000 Louisiana residents are caring for an older parent or other loved one, helping them to live independently at home. These family caregivers have a huge responsibility, and now there’s support in place that will make life a little bit easier for them.

BATON ROUGE, La. – November marks National Family Caregivers Month, a time to recognize the 40 million Americans – including 660,000 from Louisiana – who help older parents, spouses, and other loved ones live independently at home, where they want to be. The unpaid care they provide – managing medications, cooking meals, driving to appointments, performing complex medical tasks and more – is valued at about $6.47 billion in Louisiana alone.
