Livable Communities
Communities across Louisiana are working each and every day to become more livable for residents of all ages.
We know that it takes time to build great communities. But, we also believe that quick action can spark longer-term progress. AARP launched the AARP Community Challenge to fund projects that build momentum for change in communities to improve livability for all local residents.
Walking outdoors improves both personal and community fitness. That’s why AARP is helping fund projects, including two in the Bayou State, to make cities more walkable.
Road safety involves more than repairing potholes. It’s about designing safe, accessible streets to accommodate all kinds of travelers—pedestrians, cyclists, transit users and people with disabilities, as well as motorists.
Most New Orleans residents 45 and older want to live in their own homes as they age, and AARP Louisiana aims to help make that happen.
New Orleanians want to know where their candidates stand on issues that directly affect them, from safe side walks and streets to better housing and transportation options.
AARP Louisiana is excited to announce FitLot as the winner of the AARP Community Challenge, aiming to create change and improve quality of life at the community-level.
Most New Orleans residents age 45-plus believe that their community is a good place to age and want to live there independently for as long as possible, a recent AARP study found.
AARP Foundation will hold a press conference Tuesday, Nov. 29 at 1 p.m. to announce $1 million in donations to assist with the rebuild efforts in Louisiana. Governor John Bel Edwards is expected to attend.
