In cooperation with Project Bread and the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, AARP is helping low-income older people stretch their food budgets by applying for Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) benefits, formerly known as food stamps.

There is no asset limit for applicants whose monthly income is below $1,915 per individual or $2,585 per couple. The average SNAP benefit is $130 a month.

Massachusetts residents age 60-plus can apply for SNAP by phone by calling Project Bread at 800-645-8333 or the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts at 800-247-9632.
