AARP Maryland

Making a difference where you live
For 90 years Social Security has delivered for Marylanders. Lets pledge to keep it strong for another 90 years and beyond.
This summer, AARP is joining with communities across the country to celebrate that legacy, while rallying public support to protect its future.
The quick-action projects are aimed at making communities more livable for people of all ages, with a focus on the needs of older adults.
One in 4 Americans provide ongoing, complex care; report finds they endure poor health, financial strain and isolation. Up 20 million since 2015
Thanks to all who attended this event! Look for our next advocacy day in 2016.
Have a good head for numbers? Love helping people? Speak a foreign language? AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has volunteer opportunities for people at every level of experience who want to provide a needed service to Maryland's low and middle income seniors. Last year in Maryland, 710 AARP Foundation Tax-Aide volunteers helped more than 42,000 people file their federal and state tax returns.
The Maryland Access Point (MAP) website allows you to assess, learn and search for long-term support information and services throughout Maryland. MAP is a partner in the national Aging and Disability Resource Center initiative supported by the U.S. Administration on Aging and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services. MAP state partners include the Maryland Departments of Aging, Disabilities, Health and Mental Hygiene, and Human Resources, as well as the Regional Centers for Independent Living. MAP currently has local service sites in ten counties. It is a helpful site for locating resources for consumers, their families and caregivers, and service staff. At age 70, Clarence “Tiger” Davis shows no signs of slowing down. Indeed, he is as active as ever taking on the responsibility of becoming AARP Maryland’s State President in April of 2012.
AARP Maryland is helping to increase food donations for the Harvest for the Hungry Food drive in March 2013 by recruiting volunteers to staff donation tables at Safeway Stores in Prince George’s County, Montgomery County, and stores in Washington DC and Northern Virginia. During the week of March 9-16, 2013 volunteers will encourage shoppers to donate food or purchase and donate a prepackaged bag of food items to help stock the Capital Food Bank after the holiday food donations are close to depletion. As Larry Adam, Director of the Harvest for the Hungry Campaign says, “Hunger knows no holiday.” Please donate during the week of March 9th by placing non perishable items at your mailbox or contact Jen Holz at 410-895-7602 to volunteer that week!
In a city with astronomical high school dropout rates, the AARP Baltimore City Experience Corps has made a difference by linking AARP volunteers with children who need extra reading help.
