Volunteering

Meet our volunteers and find opportunities to get involved with our outreach and community service programs.
If you've been keeping up with our major projects this year, you know that we have two large-scale, volunteer-driven events on the horizon in 2018: our annual spring food drive at the end of April, and our first intergenerational playground project breaking ground in Baltimore on May 10!
From participating in a fun Chinese New Year celebration in Howard County to hosting our first (and most popular to-date) free movie screening of Black Panther in Owings Mills, we stayed busy last month! Check out a few images from our February events below. If you're interested in joining our volunteer team and making a difference in your community with AARP, take a moment to fill out our volunteer interest form and someone will be in touch soon!
Only one month has passed in 2018, and boy do we feel like we hit the ground running!
Are you comfortable with public speaking? If so, we need you as a volunteer! Mark your calendar for January 31st and come see us at our Speaker's Bureau and Volunteer Engagement Open House!
AARP Chapters across the state of Maryland are all vital parts of their community and take time to give back. We're proud to see the hard work they accomplish each and every year. As 2017 comes to an end we'd like to shine a spotlight on one chapter that has really gone above and beyond to volunteer in their community: Suitland Maryland Chapter 939.

As AARP Maryland's current State President, Clarence "Tiger" Davis, completes his final term, AARP is thankful for everything he has done.
BALTIMORE (October 10, 2018) – Jasmin Marie Duckett of Baltimore has been selected by AARP, the nonprofit organization for people 50 and older, to receive the 2017 AARP Maryland Andrus Award for Community Service—the Association’s most prestigious and visible state volunteer award for community service. AARP Maryland selected Duckett for her remarkable service, including her tireless work on a series of improvements that together help to make her West Baltimore neighborhood a safer and more comfortable place to live— especially for older adults
If someone with more professional experience offered you guidance early in your career, here’s a chance to pay it forward.
Updated May 22 2017: The Spring Food Drive for 2017 is now over, and was a huge success! 30 stores across the state participated, with volunteer and food donors giving their all for this important cause. Read our special wrap-up blog for final drive numbers and to find photos from the various stores and volunteers. Thank you to all who helped in 2017! If you would like to be on the Harvest for the Hungry event planning team for 2018, please email Joy Hall at jhall@aarp.org.
