As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older adults—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.

Once a month, on the first & 2nd Saturdays of every month, AARP members and volunteers in the Greater Worcester & Boston areas sign up to walk and talk with each other and a local healthcare provider. As the fall formal legislation season winds down, AARP Massachusetts saw key bills make headway on Beacon Hill. Nursing home reform and a bill aimed at cutting prescription drug costs cleared hurdles.
