Markey shared his family caregiving story: his father, a retired milkman, cared for his mother after she was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 1985. AARP Community Challenge Grants fund projects that make tangible improvements to jump-start long-term change and improve livability. Applications were accepted through March 6, 2024, 5:00 p.m. Now in its 8th year, the AARP Community Challenge has invested over $16.4 million through 1,370 grants in communities across all 50 states, D.C., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
