As of November 1, 2025, millions of Americans—including many older adults—may not receive their monthly food benefits through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) due to the ongoing federal government shutdown. This disruption affects individuals living on fixed incomes, many of whom rely on SNAP to afford groceries and maintain their health.

November is National Family Caregivers Month, a time to honor the dedication and sacrifices of the 63 million family caregivers in the United States, including 1.4 million in Massachusetts who assist loved ones in living independently at home.
AARP Massachusetts is backing Senate Bill No. 764 An Act To Establish The Family Caregiver Tax Credit. The bill would establish a refundable $1500 tax credit.
Seven Massachusetts projects received AARP Community Challenge grants in 2023, with a total of $77,750 awarded. The grants, part of AARP’s Livable Communities initiative, provide funding for quick-turnaround projects that seek to improve the quality of life for residents of all ages.
A report by the Federal Trade Commission found that Veterans, Active-Duty service members and their families are 40% more likely to lose money to scams and fraud than the civilian population. Visit www.aarp.org/vetsfraudcenter for more information.
