Karen Richardson selected as recipient of 2016 Andrus Award for Community Service
In a state whose legislature convenes for only 90 days every other year, AARP Montana plans to hit the ground running when the next session begins Jan. 2. The AARP state office will be pressing for legislation that affects more than 400,000 Montanans age 50-plus—including bills to support family caregivers, strengthen consumer protections and safeguard services that help Montanans continue to live at home as they age.

November marks National Family Caregivers Month, a time to recognize the 40 million Americans – nearly 118,000 from Montana – who help older parents, spouses, and other loved ones live independently at home, where they want to be. The unpaid care they provide – managing medications, cooking meals, driving to appointments, performing complex medical tasks and more – is valued at about $1.4 billion in Montana alone.
Show your appreciation by nominating a volunteer for the 2015 AARP Montana Andrus Award for Community Service. AARP’s most prestigious Montana volunteer award recognizes individuals who are sharing their experience, talent and skills in ways significantly enrich the lives of others. Only one Montana individual or couple is selected each year. The nomination deadline is June 2, 2015.
