AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is expanding its team of Nebraska volunteers for the upcoming tax season. Tax-Aide, now in its 51 st year, offers free in-person preparation and assistance to anyone, especially those 50 and older, who can’t afford a tax preparation service. Volunteers make a difference in their communities by assisting many older, lower-income taxpayers, and their families, who might otherwise miss out on the tax credits and deductions they’ve earned.

As data breach incidents proliferate, a new AARP survey finds that an alarming number of Nebraska residents have failed to take basic precautions against identity fraud. In response, AARP Nebraska and the AARP Fraud Watch Network have launched a campaign to raise awareness of identity theft risks and educate consumers on how to enhance the safety of their personal information.

Lawmakers approved permanent Aging and Disability Resource Centers at locations across the state. These free one-stop sites for information, referral and assistance were first launched as a demonstration project in 2015 to connect older and disabled Nebraskans and family caregivers with the support and services they need. Such information can help people stay in their homes longer and avoid costly care.
AARP announces two Nebraska winners for its 2018 AARP Community Challenge grant program to help communities make immediate improvements and jumpstart long-term progress to support residents of all ages. A total of $1.3 million will be distributed to fund 129 “quick action” projects across the country. Nearly 1,600 applications were received from non-profits and government entities for the program, now in its second year. Each of the projects, which must be completed by November 5, is designed to achieve one or more of the following outcomes:
