We’re writing with an important message to let you know that we have canceled our external events until further notice. While convening events is a core part of our mission, we have changed our approach in light of the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
With AARP grants, two communities are jump-starting improvements that will make their cities more livable for residents of all ages.
This year, Grand Island became the first community in the state to join the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities, as its leaders work to make the city a place where residents of all ages can thrive.
Amy Goyer, a nationally known expert on aging and families for AARP, will visit Nebraska April 24-25 to share her personal caregiving journey at AARP events in Lincoln and Omaha and the annual Day of Caring in Hastings.
AARP Community Challenge Grants Are Back in 2019
Omaha hosted a neighborhood festival, and the city will soon have more benches, planters and art installations as part of an initiative to make the area more appealing to residents of all ages.

AARP Nebraska’s team of Hastings volunteers is joining forces with Mary Lanning Healthcare to host a Care to Share mobility medical equipment drive on June 16. The drive will be held at Mary Lanning Healthcare, 715 North St. Joseph Avenue from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
AARP is now accepting applications for the 2018 Community Challenge grant program to fund “quick-action” projects that spark change in local communities. The grant program, which is now in its second year, is part of AARP’s nationwide Livable Communities initiative, which aims to make communities great places to live for everyone.
Lincoln, Neb. — Ensuring that Nebraska’s rapidly growing 65-plus population is able to find the right care at the right time tops the list of issues that AARP will champion during the 2018 legislative session.
