AARP Nevada Voices Podcast Returns for 2018

The popular AARP Nevada Voices Podcast is back for its second year! We kick it off with an update on where AARP will focus its efforts in 2018.

Our first episode of 2018 includes the State Director's report with Maria Dent. Dent reviews 2017 and explains the focus of AARP Nevada for 2018 and some of the changes we're bringing forward in our new approach. That approach means we will do more in specific communities to have a much deeper impact than before. Those Community Presence sites for 2018 are North Las Vegas, Henderson, Spring Valley, and Reno.

Dent was keen to point out this does not mean AARP won't be present throughout the state. You'll still see AARP at the events and talking about issues that impact Nevadans 50+ everywhere. It means you will see more of AARP Nevada in some of these communities to double-down on helping them and their families.

In the second half of our podcast we welcome Jacqueline Barnett, one of our Community Outreach Director's here at AARP Nevada. She introduces us to Janice Alpern who is one of our great volunteers at AARP in Las Vegas and also helps run our very popular Cinemaniacs film club. Alpern tells us how she fell in love with the movies as a child and how that passion runs deep and helps her oversee this great opportunity for members to get together and talk about their favorite films. We even discuss the newly announced Oscar nominations and tell you our favorites to win.

We finish the podcast with Barnett running down the calendar of events and activities for a busy February. From the Henderson Senior Summit (Jan. 30), to community meetings, and even our "Sweetheart or Swindler" Valentine's Day event at Ethel M., it's going to be a busy month and we'll tell you when and where these great happenings will occur.

Thanks again for listening and please share this podcast with you friends!
