Join AARP New Jersey for Free, Virtual Events in November

Every day brings an opportunity to connect to your community and one another. With AARP New Jersey, you can connect without ever leaving home.

AARP New Jersey is celebrating Diwali and New Jersey’s diverse culture in November. Join us in collaboration with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset for a series of virtual events this November, including: Pranayama yoga, Bollywood Zumba, cooking classes celebrating Diwali, and cooking classes – in English and Spanish – celebrating Latino culture.

Space is limited, so please register for each class that you’d like to attend. Once you register, you will be sent a confirmation email with a Zoom link to join.

Pranayama Yoga

Pranayama is the practice of breath control in yoga. In modern yoga as exercise, it consists of synchronizing the breath with movements. This 8-exercise Pranayama Yoga session can help your respiratory apparatus, improve your mental health and focus, and calm your brain. This class will be led by Karan Gupta.

Bollywood Zumba

Zumba Gold is a low impact, modified, easy-to-follow version of the wildly popular, Zumba Dance fitness workout. This class will focus on Bollywood Zumba in honor of Diwali! Participants will have fun moving to international rhythms while standing or following moves from their chair.

Dance experience is not required. The moves in the class are broken down in a slow and manageable manner, and choreography focuses on improving range of motion, coordination and balance.

This class will be led by Varsha Naik – an outgoing and energetic Zumba and dance choreographer with talent in a wide variety of dance forms such as Dance fitness, Zumba, and Bollywood.

Diwali (November 14, 2020), the festival of lights, is one of the most popular festivals of Hinduism celebrated over a five day period ultimately leading to the Hindu New Year. It symbolizes victory of light over darkness, virtue over evil, and knowledge over ignorance.

In these virtual cooking demonstrations, Chef Vipul Gupta or Chef Neelma Patel will be highlighting healthy twists on South Asian classic dishes in celebration of Diwali! We will also discuss making daily healthy choices.

AARP NJ is hosting a FREE virtual event in collaboration with Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Somerset to discuss prevalent health issues, especially those faced by the Latino community. Join us for a discussion on Diabetes prevention and care as well as nutrition education, tips and resources.

Plus, Chef Carolina Moratti will be joining us to provide a healthy cooking demonstration and highlight tips on healthier meal prep and eating, which also embrace Latino cultural roots and flavor.
