We’ll talk about how to find care and maximize your benefits. We’ll also review Social Security basics like how to enroll and when to claim your benefits for maximum value. Plus, we’ll show you how to calculate your social security benefits and also review special rules just for caregivers. This free event will include free health screenings, informative seminars to help you plan and live well, as well as shopping and entertainment. Join AARP Oklahoma Fraud Fighter Wayne Blackmon for a special 30-minute seminar at 10:15 a.m on how to spot and avoid identity theft and fraud so you can protect yourself and your family. We’ll also offer helpful information on family caregiving resources.
Tulsa, Okla. -- As a part of AARP’s “I Heart Caregivers” initiative to support family caregivers who help make it possible for older Americans and other loved ones to live independently at home, AARP Oklahoma has launched a series of local resources to support family caregivers and those in their care.
Every day, a silent army of 524,000 Oklahomans perform a great labor of love by performing family caregiving duties by helping their parents and significant others remain at home.
524,000 Oklahomans are family caregivers and we know they can use more support. AARP is here to help. Anyone can take advantage of our free caregiving resources, not just AARP members. Now, we're hosting a weeklong celebration of caregivers at Tulsa's Guthrie Green with resources and help for caregivers as well as opportunities to relax.
Caregiving may be one of the most important roles you will ever take on in your life. You may have become a caregiver suddenly or perhaps your role has evolved over time. No matter where you are in the continuum of caregiving- starting to plan, helping to coordinate a big move, or take care of a family member in your home- having resources at your fingertips will make the process easier.
More than 520,000 Oklahomans care for older parents, spouses or other loved ones, helping them to live independently in their own homes. These family caregivers have a huge responsibility, and now a new law will make life a little bit easier for them. The CARE (Caregiver Advise, Record, Enable) Act helps family caregivers when their loved ones go into the hospital and as they transition home.
AARP Oklahoma is hosting a tele-town hall on Tuesday, March 21 at 10am CST. The tele-town hall will focus on House Bill 1013 which gives nurse practitioners more authority to heal. HB1013 increases Oklahomans’ access to health care, take steps toward addressing the shortage of primary health care providers, and supports the 524,000 caregivers in our state.
The Artic Blast heading for Oklahoma is forecasted to bring rain, snow showers and dangerously cold temperatures. AARP Oklahoma is advising family members, caregivers and friends to keep a close eye on older adults as they are especially vulnerable to hypothermia.
