AARP Congratulates Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto on His 50th Birthday
PITTSBURGH, PA – Pittsburgh Mayor William Peduto celebrated his 50th birthday by receiving his official AARP membership card at a ceremony at the City-County Building.
“On behalf of AARP and its more than 175,000 members throughout Allegheny County, we want to wish a warm and very happy 50th birthday to Mayor William Peduto as he reaches this very special milestone,” said AARP Pennsylvania State Director Bill Johnston-Walsh. “Not only is Pittsburgh recognized as America’s Most Livable City, the region is also home to the state’s most dense population of 50+ adults.”
“As a dedicated member of the city's 40+ Senior Iron League Hockey League, despite his government duties, we know William Peduto will continue to set a great example to all by showing that age sets no boundaries on what you can achieve in life,” said Johnston-Walsh. “We’re very proud to call him a member of the AARP family.”
"Some 50th birthday presents are better than others, and joining other members of the AARP team is definitely one of them," Mayor Peduto said. "I'm proud to be among the growing number of 50+ Pittsburghers enjoying the quality of life, livability and healthy lifestyles afforded to those of all ages in our city."
Mayor Peduto’s commitment to lead by example helped launch Live Well Pittsburgh earlier this year, where he shared his vision for a more age-friendly city with an audience that included some of Pittsburgh's youngest and eldest residents. Under the Mayor’s direction, Live Well Pittsburgh encourages playful, active living as essential ingredients to building communities where Pittsburghers of all ages and abilities will thrive. Mayor Peduto also has spoken candidly about his personal journey and achieving his lifelong dream of becoming Mayor of Pittsburgh the same year he celebrates his 50th birthday.
