AARP Eye Center
On behalf of 50+ Pennsylvanians across the Commonwealth, including the 1.8 million AARP members, I am writing to thank Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick for being part of the fight against age discrimination by co-sponsoring the Protecting Older Workers Against Discrimination Act (POWADA).
Age discrimination in the workplace, like any other kind of discrimination, is wrong. It threatens the financial security of older workers like me, by pushing us out of the workforce and creating barriers to jobs or promotions. Ten years ago, a Supreme Court ruling made it harder to prove age discrimination than any other type of workplace discrimination. This ruling sent a message to employers that some amount of age discrimination is legally acceptable. But it is not – discrimination is discrimination.
AARP is fighting to ensure that all workers are treated fairly based on their qualifications, not their age. The POWADA would restore older workers’ rights to be treated fairly on the job based on our skills and experience.
Thank you Representative Fitzpatrick for cosponsoring HR 1230 and protecting older workers from discrimination.
Sincerely,
Bill Johnston-Walsh, State Director
