It’s time for spring cleaning, and that includes getting rid of old bank statements and other financial documents. But don’t just throw them out. Shred instead. Otherwise, identity thieves can use the information to steal your savings.

AARP South Carolina today announced that it is joining forces with the AARP Fraud Watch Network and the U.S. Postal Inspection Service for Operation Protect Veterans -- a campaign to warn those who have served in the military about scams and fraud schemes that target veterans. The major educational campaign will reach out to veterans in communities across South Carolina and nationwide.
Every two seconds someone’s identity is stolen. But you can take steps to protect yourself. Join us to fight back against fraud at a free shredding event in South Carolina during May. Please limit your items to three bags or boxes. Shredding services are provided free and open to the public.

With the holiday giving season approaching, a new survey from the AARP Fraud Watch Network found that 62% of South Carolina consumers failed a quiz about how to stay safe from common holiday scams, and many are regularly engaging in risky behaviors which could leave them at risk of being victimized by con artists.

You'll find information from the AARP Fraud Watch Network, resources for caregivers, and the exciting Life Reimagined photo booth will capture your creativity. Several state agencies that provide resources to older adults will join us as well.
