South Dakotans can worry a little less about identity theft, thanks to a new law backed by AARP South Dakota.

Effective July 1, if a company or agency discovers a security breach, it must disclose that fact within 60 days to any South Dakotan whose personal information has been jeopardized. If the leak affects more than 250 residents, the state attorney general must be alerted.
