In November, AARP Tennessee will offer a four-part Virtual Caregiving Series, with tips for those caring for a grandchild, a veteran or someone with dementia. During one session on Nov. 24, AARP will show a 27-minute Nashville PBS documentary featuring three Tennessee couples raising their grandchildren. The series will also include practical advice and emotional support for all types of caregivers.

A new organization, Honoring Choices Tennessee, has been formed to increase the number of Tennesseans who have an advance directive for healthcare. An advance directive for healthcare is a document that would tell family and care providers a patient’s preferences for care should they ever be in a position where they could not make decisions and communicate them for themselves.
I’m Kraig Smith, the new state president for AARP Tennessee. I’m excited to be appointed to this role and looking forward to support people 50+ and their families.

Today, we mourn the loss of a community leader and former AARP Tennessee State President Cleo Owens.
"It is truly an honor to represent our more than 650,000 AARP members in Tennessee and act as the principal volunteer spokesperson," said Kraig Smith, the newly appointed state president for AARP Tennessee.
AARP is calling on Congress to reject the so-called “age rating” proposal for health insurance. It’s an unfair tax that would increase health care costs for older Americans — and would line the pockets of big insurance companies. AARP is fighting to stop this age tax and prevent insurance companies from unfairly hiking health care costs.
