Grandparents are filling the void when parents can’t care for their children. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, about 77,000 grandparents are raising children in the state.
To honor the state’s 990,000 family caregivers, AARP Tennessee and the National Museum of African American Music in Nashville are teaming up to present a free “couch concert” with gospel singer CeCe Winans on Wednesday, Aug. 11, at 7 p.m. CT.
Dementia is a challenge for those with the condition and their caregivers. AARP Tennessee is working to ease the burden, collaborating with the Rosalynn Carter Institute for Caregiving to present the Dealing With Dementia virtual workshop on Tuesday, June 1, at 1 p.m. CT.
Last year was a time of racial reckoning, and AARP wants to continue the dialogue about how we can overcome unconscious biases that affect our lives and relationships.
Supporting age-friendly communities and promoting brain health are two AARP Tennessee priorities. AARP Community Challenge grants will help meet those goals.
