This year, natural gas prices are expected to rise in Utah resulting in a roughly 20% increase in residential heating bills compared to last winter.
Research shows that for fixed-income households ages 65+, these increases can cause residents to reduce the use of heat or go without necessities, such as medicine or food, in order to pay an energy bill.
And because older people are more vulnerable to hypothermia than younger ones, unaffordable heating costs pose a health risk to older populations. Colder temperatures, expensive
Watch our conversation with Jorgan Hofeling from Dominion Energy and Michele Beck from Utah's Office of Consumer Services to learn how to save money on your heating bill and stay safe and warm in your home.
