Celebrate National Women’s Health Week, May 12-18, 2013!

Join a conversation about women’s health on Monday, May 13 at 10:30 a.m.

AARP is joining the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, the Hope Heart Institute and the Washington Dental Service Foundation in celebrating National Women’s Health Week. National Women’s Health Week kicks off on Mother’s Day, Sunday, May 12, and will be celebrated through Saturday, May 18, 2013.

National Women’s Health Week is a nationwide initiative that calls attention to the importance of women’s health and empowers women to take small, manageable steps for longer, healthier, happier lives.

On Monday, May 13, from 10:30 – 11:30 a.m., the organizations will hold a teletown hall meeting for women across the state of Washington to talk about their health.  On the call women will get information about the importance of preventative screenings in the detection of heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and other conditions.  And women will learn about the connection between chronic diseases such as heart disease and diabetes and oral health.  The call will be interactive and participants will have the opportunity to ask questions and participate in live polling.

During the teletown hall, listeners will have the opportunity to hear from subject matter experts such as Dr. Nancy Fisher, with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; Dr. Eve Rutherford a practicing dentist and Affiliate Faculty for the University of Washington, Department of Pediatric Dentistry; and Barbara Cochran, PhD, RN, FAAN, Associate Professor, the de Tornyay Endowed Professor for Healthy Aging on behalf of the Hope Heart Institute.
