Most of us want to be able to stay in our own homes and communities as we age or face challenges caring for ourselves due to a serious long-term illness, injury or disability. We also know that 70% of those 65 and older, will require some assistance to do that.
Chances are, if you aren’t a family caregiver, you know someone who is. Every day, more than 820,000 Washingtonians help their parents, spouses, siblings, grandparents, neighbors and other loved ones to live independently at home – where they want to be.
AARP, lawmakers and others are looking at neighborhood networks as a way to help provide services to older residents — possibly helping them stay in their homes longer.
Making a difference doesn't stop as you age. Millions of older adults are using their experience to give back, to solve problems, and to change lives. The AARP® Purpose Prize® award honors extraordinary individuals who use their lived experiences to make a better future for all.
A big thank you to all our volunteers who worked so diligently to review more than 70 Community Challenge grant applications from organizations across Washington State. It is a daunting task since so many groups are working to create communities for all ages.
