AARP at Portland Sunday Parkways

AARP Booth at PSP 2013

AARP Oregon is excited to be a Portland Sunday Parkways sponsor again this year! Portland Sunday Parkways is a wonderful series of community extravaganza that promotes healthy active living through a series of free events opening the city's largest public space - its streets - to walk, bike, roll, and discover active transportation while fostering civic pride, stimulating economic development, and represents the community, business, and government investments in Portland's vitality, livability, and diversity.

Last year, we so enjoyed meeting Portlander of all ages at the events that we decided we couldn't possibly miss out on this year's fun. The 2014 Sunday Parkways events, which run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., are as follows:
o May 11 in East Portland

AARP member volunteers

o June 22 in Northeast Portland
o July 27 in North Portland
o Aug. 24 in Southeast Portland
o Sept. 28 in Southwest Portland.

We need your help!
Last year, over 50 AARP members volunteered to help out at the events, mostly as purple tshirt-clad intersection heroes. This year the tshirt is going to be either green or orange, but what we need are the bodies to wear them! If you have a few hours one of those five Sundays mentioned above to bask in the sun, enjoying lovely Portlanders on foot or fancy bikes, please consider volunteering as part of the AARP Portland Sunday Parkways crew. All volunteers will get the training they require to fulfill their role, plus a t-shirt, water/snack, etc.  Volunteers will work in pairs or by themselves at street intersections to help neighbors, pedestrians and other participants along the Parkways route. The first Sunday Parkways event on May 11 we will be at the Glenwood Park. To register:
