AARP Georgia is partnering with the Atlanta Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc. and The Department of Aviation Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport to host a citywide debate competition for African American male students. The event is complimentary and the public is invited to attend.

The AARP/ KAP Debate Competition will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 24, 2016 at the Airport Marriott Hotel, 4711 Best Road, Atlanta, Georgia 30337. It will feature four high school students from: 1) Grady High School, 2) Jonesboro High School, 3) Therrell High School, and 4) Whitewater High School. The students have participated in “Mock Trial” teams of their respective schools and or programs that have required public speaking and extensive topic research. The featured debate questions will address AARP topics to include Social Security and Health Care. The student selected will be entitled to a $250 participation stipend based on debate preparation. Students finishing in 1st and 2nd places will receive a $2,000 and $1,000 award respectively as well as a plaque.

The debate competition is one facet of the Atlanta Alumni Chapter’s Guide Right Program and to provide unique community outreach opportunities. Multicultural and intergenerational engagement are both shared objectives between AARP and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.
