Unlike 2017, this year the weather cooperated and AARP South Dakota's 2018 Lobby Day was a tremendous success! Nearly 100 AARP South Dakota advocacy volunteers came from across the state to meet with their legislators and discuss AARP South Dakota’s 2018 legislative priorities. To learn more, click here! Nearly 100 advocates from 18 different communities and every corner of our state gathered in Pierre Tuesday for AARP South Dakota's annual Lobby Day at the Capitol. Many attendees took the opportunity to speak with their local lawmakers about the issues that are important to South Dakotans age 50+ including increased access to care, support for family caregivers and expanded consumer protections.
The end of week 3 marks the deadline for bills to be submitted for the 2018 South Dakota legislative session. With more than 400 bills filed so far this year, the legislature has already surpassed the total number of bills filed in 2017 (390).

December is a critical month for charities to raise money. In fact, nearly one third of annual giving occurs in December. Scammers are well aware of this and are out in full force looking to line their own pockets as the year draws to an end. South Dakota Attorney General, Marty Jackley "encourages South Dakotans to continue to give to those less fortunate, but to follow these precautions to ensure [the] donation is going to the cause for which it is intended."
