Celebrate 2022 Hispanic Heritage Month with us!

This fall, we’re celebrating Hispanic Heritage month from September 15 to October 15, recognizing how we are unidos by our heritage.

The festivities kick off with a virtual cooking demonstration of chile en nogada, followed by a night of dancing to the rhythm of cumbia, a conversation about debt management, an in-person shred event and much more! Check out the complete list below. Events are FREE and advanced registration is required.  

Also, visit us on Facebook as we unveil weekly videos highlighting community leaders who’ve made contributions in art, policy, business, and within general community.

Cooking Demonstration: Chile en Nogada – Friday, September 16 at 6 pm
We’re kicking off Hispanic Heritage Month with a virtual cooking demonstration with Maite Gomez-Rejon of ArtBites. You’ll learn how to make chile en nogada, while learning about the history of the symbolic dish. The first 20 people who register will receive an apron. Register HERE.

Grand Performances Concert: Cumbiaton – Saturday, September 17 at 6 pm
Dance the night away to the rhythm of cumbia! Join AARP for a concert with Grand Performances featuring Cumbiaton, a cultural movement that utilizes music to uplift communities. Stop by our booth for FREE giveaways for registered participants. This concert is in-person and takes place at 350 South Grand, Los Angeles CA 90017. Register HERE.

Let’s Talk Dinero: Debt Management – Monday, September 19 at 4 pm During this Let’s Talk Dinero event, you’ll hear from Financial Coach Isabel Duran De Gallegos about debt management. Learn how to pay down debt, get tips on how to increase credit scores and negotiate collection accounts, and more! Register HERE.

Shred + Fraud Event – Friday, September 23 at 9 am
Tired of manually shredding your sensitive documents? Join us for a shred event where you can safely dispose of your documents. While you’re there, learn about the latest fraud schemes and strategies to keep your information secure. Register HERE.

Grand Performances Concert: Francisca Valenzuela – Saturday, September 24 at 6 pm
Join us for another Grand Performances Concert featuring Francisca Valenzuela, a Chilean songstress, performer and pianist. Stop by our booth for FREE giveaways for registered participants. This concert is in-person and takes place at 350 South Grand, Los Angeles CA 90017. Register HERE.

Piggy Bank Essentials – Thursday, September 29 at 9 am
When it comes to your personal finances, are you a spender, saver, maker or grower? How does that affect your financial planning? Join us for a chat with Martin Booker of AARP’s Financial Resilience Team. We’ll go over the saver and everyday money saving tips. Register HERE.

Unidad: Gay & Lesbian Latinos Unidos a Conversation - Wednesday, October 5 at 12 pm
Gay and Lesbian Latinos Unidos (GLLU) was founded in 1981, only a dozen years after the Stonewall rebellion and only a couple of years before the HIV/AIDS pandemic began to ravage LGBTQ communities. Learn about this historic organization by watching the documentary at home, then join us for a panel conversation with the men and women who were there. Register HERE.

In-Person Cooking Demonstration – Friday, October 7 at 5 pm
Mark your calendars for October 7! Join AARP and Chef Maite Gomez-Rejon of ArtBites for an-person cooking demonstration at La Plaza de Cultura y Artes’ newest museum, La Cocina. Learn about the key role that women played in Mexico’s culinary history. You’ll also have the opportunity to check out the museum. All registered participants who attend will receive an apron. CicLAvia: Heart of LA - Sunday, October 9 at 9 am
Grab your bikes, scooters, skates, skateboards and pets—join us for another CicLAvia from 9 am to 4 pm in the Heart of LA. Stop by the AARP booth at the Mariachi Plaza for FREE giveaways for registered participants. Learn more and register HERE.

Let’s Talk Dinero: Homeownership – Monday, October 10 at 4 pm
During this Let's Talk Dinero event, you'll learn about the steps to becoming a homeowner. Hear from Financial Coach, Isabel Duran De Gallegos, about homeownership, documents needed to qualify for a mortgage loan, first-time home buyer programs and more. Register HERE.

Cooking Class: Sabor a Tres Leches Cake - Saturday, October 15 at 10 am
Bring your children and grandchildren for this intergenerational cooking class! In this class, you'll learn how to make a Tres Leches dessert in a mason jar.  After the cooking class, enjoy a tour of LA Cocina, the newest museum on LA Plaza de Cultura y Artes campus! Register HERE.
