October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month and AARP California is joining federal law enforcement and other partners to provide you with opportunities to learn how you can avoid frauds and scams. We invite you to join us at one or all the following fraud prevention events.

Cyber Frauds & Scams                                                            
Hardly a month goes by without hearing of another cyber scam, fraud or data breach exposing our personal information to hackers and potential identity thieves. Join us, the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency and the U.S. Attorney’s Office on Wednesday, October 13th from 12-12:30 p.m. PT for a FREE interactive conversation on cyber frauds and scams. A Conversation on The Dark Web                                                                                              
Deep within the internet is the Dark Web, a space where criminals can anonymously buy and sell illegal goods and private information. Learn from cyber safety experts what you can do to protect yourself and the people you care about from scams and fraud by joining AARP California and the FBI virtually on Wednesday, October 20th from 12-12:30 p.m. PT. A Conversation on Cryptocurrency                                                                                                    Cryptocurrency fraud has taken a quantum leap in recent months. The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) received nearly 6,800 complaints of cryptocurrency investment scams from October 2020 through March 31, up from 570 in the same period a year before.
