November marks the one-year anniversary of the passage of Measure M, the transportation ballot initiative that will deliver on $120 billion worth of improvement projects to relieve traffic, fix sidewalks and potholes and help improve the quality of life in the Greater Los Angeles area.

October 8, 2017: CicLAVia Heart of LA

What would major streets in Los Angeles County look like without vehicles? Join us at CicLAvia on October 8 th to find out. See the Heart of Los Angeles in a whole new way! Catch a ride on AARP’s FREE pedicabs and bike, walk, skate, dance, and play through car-free streets. October 21, 2017: Northwest Pasadena – Envisioning and Building More Together

Join the North Fair Oaks Empowerment Initiative, a grassroots, community coalition of neighbors seeking to make Northwest Pasadena safer and more livable for people of all ages and abilities, as they celebrate recent City Council wins for safer crosswalks and other beautifying and traffic slowing measures! October 24, 2017: The 2nd Annual Older Adult Transportation Expo

Come participate in AARP and Metro Los Angeles’ On the Move Riders Club at the 2nd Annual Older Adult Transportation Expo. You’ll have the opportunity to learn everything there is to know about using public transportation and other mobility options. November 4, 2017: Taste of the Red Line

Ditch the car, ditch the Bus! Let’s go underground to taste Los Angeles! From Downtown to Koreatown to Hollywood, this tour will swoosh through tunnels on LA’s Red Line Subway, transporting attendees to secret spots for food and culture. The group will meet inside the North Hollywood Subway station at the ticketing area where an AARP sign will mark the spot. The tour is FREE for AARP members, includes food, and a special AARP commemorative Metro TAP Card! Space is limited. Learn more and register HERE.

November 5, 2017: Women on Wheels (WoW) Multigenerational Nature Bike Ride

8:30 AM – 1:30 PM | 10909 Mulhall Street, El Monte, California 91731

AARP in Los Angeles and Women on Wheels (WoW) invites women of all ages and abilities to join our Multigenerational Nature Ride. The ride will go from Jeff Seymour Family Center in El Monte, visit the Arcadia Gold Line Station and continue onto the Los Angeles County Arboretum for a nice picnic and nature walk. There will be 2 trishaws, also known as “Cycling without Age” bikes, available for any woman with mobility limitations or who would simply prefer to sit. Learn more and register HERE.

November 5, 2017: Sunday Funday Ride

Love LA? Want to see more of the county from a bike’s eye view? Want to meet other bike lovers from all over our magnificent far-flung metropolis? Then join AARP in Los Angeles and the Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition (LACBC) for a Sunday Funday ride that allows you to discover the Expo Line Bike Path. Learn more and register HERE.

November 6 & 8, 2017: Travel Training 101 Classes and Tours by On the Move Riders Club

10:00 AM – 1:00 PM | 800 North Alameda Street, Los Angeles, CA 90012

This event will provide AARP members an opportunity to learn more about Metro Los Angeles’ On the Move Riders Club and the public transit system, as well as become familiar with local and regional transportation and system and connectivity within LA County. Each day will also include an educational tour with hands-on practice and invaluable information to travel confidently on fixed routes. Space is limited. November 9, 2017: Special Telephone Townhall for CA Veterans & Their Caregivers

In November we honor the veterans who have sacrificed so much for our country. We are also grateful for those who care for our veterans when they return from duty. Join a live telephone town hall featuring Major General (Ret.) Tony Taguba for a discussion about family caregiving for veterans and their caregivers. November 18, 2017: Downtown LA Food Bike Tour Presented by CicLAvia

November 18, 2017: Learn-to-Bike Classes

Don’t know how to ride a bicycle, but want to learn? Now is your chance to join AARP and Bike San Gabriel Valley by participating in a FREE 2-hour Learn to Bike class. November 18, 2017: Transportation Gala

6:30 PM – 9:00 PM | 800 North Alameda Street, Los Angeles, California 90012

The month-long celebration will culminate in a fun black-tie (optional) event held at Los Angeles Union Station. You don’t want to miss the fun-filled evening of music, dancing, food, prizes and more! Attendees are also encouraged to use public transportation to get to the event. There is a recommend $10 donation.  All proceeds raised will go to the Disabled Americans Veterans charity to support transportation services for disabled military veterans of the United States Armed Forces in the Los Angeles area. November 19, 2017: Explore the San Gabriel Valley Greenways

9:30 AM – 12:30 PM | 10900 Mulhall St., El Monte, California 91731

Explore the history of the Emerald Necklace and other greenway projects, while enjoying a scenic, 17-mile bike ride along the Rio Hondo and San Gabriel River paths. There will be educational stops along the route to inform you about the history of the Emerald Necklace, current efforts, specific greenway projects and opportunities, Measure M funding for the greenways ($231 million set-aside), and opportunities for the public to get involved.
