Throughout the month of June, AARP in San Diego will be celebrating the 120 ^th anniversary of the Philippine’s independence. Join us at the following celebrations and events – bring your family and friends and come celebrate with your Kababayan!

Make sure to stop by the AARP booth at each event to learn more about becoming an AARP member or volunteer, gain insightful resources, find out how AARP is empowering the 50+ to choose how they live as they age, and receive free giveaways.

Asian Festival Day at the San Diego County Fair

Saturday, June 2nd 11am-7pm | 2260 Jimmy Durante Blvd, Del Mar (Fair Ground

This fun and exciting event will be filled with cultural and contemporary performances, food, and vendors. After the festival ends, enjoy a special performance by Filharmoinc, the Los Angeles acapella group that’s featured in Pitch Perfect 2. General admission to the fairgrounds gives you access to the Asian Festival Day entrainment.

Annual Filipino Cultural Celebration

Saturday, June 9th 12pm-6:30pm | 330 N. Coast Library, Oceanside (Oceanside Civic Center Plaza and Library)

Cost: FREE

The Filipino-American Cultural Organization (FACO) and the Oceanside Public Library will be hosting the 17 ^th Annual Filipino Cultural Celebration. The theme for this year’s event is “Celebrate Culture, Inspire Harmony.” The event will include traditional folk dancing and music, colorful costumes, special performances, and delicious food. Special guest performers will include R&B/pop singer Leo Villamil and rock star performer Malou Zagala Toler!

120^th Philippine Independence Day Flag Raising Ceremony

Tuesday, June 12th 3pm-7pm | 2191 Pan American Plaza, San Diego (Balboa Park, House of Philippines)

Cost: FREE

The Philippine Independence Day Flag Raising Ceremony will take place at the iconic Balboa Park. The event will feature live music and entertainment, traditional food, and remarks from state and local elected guests as we raise the flag in honor in Philippine Independence.

NaFFAA Region 10 Membership Launch

Thursday, June 14th 5:30-8:30 | 9845 Ema Road, San Diego (The Filipino School)

Hear from guest leaders and advocates, and learn about a special combined membership offering to join National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) and AARP. NaFFAA is a non-partisan and non-profit organization that advocates for Filipino Americans.

BUKAS Dance for Wellness Fundraiser

Saturday, June 23 10am-4pm| 649 West Mission Ave., Escondido

Cost: $10 Donation

Come join us as we dance for a cause. Entrance includes lunch, dancing and raffle drawings! BUKAS is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting physical well-being, wellness and mental health for those ages 50 and older.
