Borrow or Donate Durable Medical Equipment

smmelc-sm

Need to borrow a wheelchair, walker, toilet riser, or bath bench? No longer need that transport chair, bed cane, or knee cruiser? If so, South Metro Medical Equipment Loan Closet (SMMELC)* may have the answer you’ve been seeking.

SMMELC is a nonprofit whose purpose is to provide used durable medical equipment for a donation to the organization, to anyone age 18 and over who is in need.

Loans are short term for up to three months in length to any person requesting it. Whether you are recovering from surgery, having elderly relatives visit, undergoing rehabilitation at home, recovering from a broken limb, or are waiting on permanent equipment to arrive, SMMELC can provide medical equipment to assist you.

Equipment available includes: wheelchairs, transport chairs, various kinds of walkers, shower benches, toilet-risers, bedside commodes, knee cruisers, crutches, canes, hospital beds with mattresses and various health aids. We do have some equipment for bariatric needs.

All equipment is inspected, cleaned and repaired if needed before added to our revolving inventory.

SMMELC is a 100 percent volunteer organization. Volunteers answer the phone Monday through Friday and set appointments to meet clients to accept donations or loan out equipment.

Although there are no set fees to borrow equipment, cash donations are needed to pay for insurance, cleaning supplies and publicity materials. We do not receive any state or federal funds.

Call 720-443-2013 Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. for an appointment to borrow or donate equipment.
