AARP Colorado Sponsors the Biennial of the Americas

Earth

Downtown Denver will be transformed into a living museum as the 2013 edition of the Biennial of the Americas gets underway, celebrating art, culture and ideas.

The Biennial of the Americas is an international festival that provides a nonpartisan platform for leaders in business, government, civil society and the arts to examine the significant issues impacting the life in the Americas.

AARP Colorado is one of the sponsors of the Biennial of the Americas and encourages all AARP members and their families to attend this iconic event.

“We are very excited to be a major sponsor of such an important cultural event,” said Roberto Rey, AARP Colorado multicultural director. “The events of the Biennial of the Americas bring together the best in art and culture and explore communities, the global market and the human potential of the Americas and how we move forward as a people.”

Learning and festivities run through Sept. 2. The opening week of the 2013 Biennial include leaders from throughout the Americas for four days of thought-provoking “clinicas” at the Buell Theatre, which will explore a number of themes, including Unleashing Human Potential: Reinventing Communities, Business, and Education.

An exhibition of public art and architecture, titled Draft Urbanism, which will also include film, will be hosted at various locations throughout downtown Denver. The public is encouraged to visit those exhibits on foot, examining our evolving relationship with the urban fabric of the cities of the Americas. The sites include downtown Denver Surface Parking Lots, the 16th Street Mall, Speer Boulevard Crossing to the Auraria Campus and Skyline Park.

In addition, the cultural programing will support a number of programs and events, including local artist exhibitions, the McNichols Building; a film and documentary series, as well as public parties, performances and cultural events at Civic Center Park.
