AARP Colorado is just one of the groups helping to organize the Pathways to Respecting American Indian Civil Rights, but the association would like members to know about a pre-conference social event with Comanche activist La Donna Harris, which is part of the Indigenous Film & Arts Festival that AARP is sponsoring.

Harris will introduce the film LaDonna Harris: Indian 101, and lead a post-screening discussion with the audience on July 8 2015, 5:30-8:30 p.m. at the Denver Museum of Nature & Science, 2001 Colorado Blvd., Denver, CO 80205.

The film, LaDonna Harris: Indian 101, from producer/director Julianna Brannum (Comanche), celebrates the life and personal struggles of Comanche activist LaDonna Harris to become a voice for Native people. The film chronicles her life, from her early activism in Oklahoma in the 1960s, to her landmark work in Washington DC, and continued initiatives to strengthen and rebuild indigenous communities and train emerging Native leaders around the world.

AARP is a presenting sponsor of the Indigenous Film & Arts Festival, a program of the International Institute for Indigenous Resource Management. For more information, visit www.dmns.org or email film@iiirm.org.
