Welcome to the AARP Colorado Healthy Living Hub, where you can find resources to help you live your healthiest lifestyle. Did you miss your favorite class this week? Maybe you would just like a little more practice with the moves, or perhaps you'd like to review nutritional information.
AARP can see and feel the trends. People 50 and older are more active, both physically and mentally, than ever before. They aren’t slowing down. In fact, they are preparing themselves to do more of the things they love. So many older adults are exercising and eating right daily; they are taking the time to learn new things, and they know the importance of life balance, making sure that leisure and fun are significant parts of their healthy lifestyle.
Certified yoga instructor Teri Mullen leads this online yoga class each week. You’ll be guided in the gentle postures of Hatha yoga, which are typically held longer and practiced more slowly than poses in other types of yoga. No experience is necessary - yoga starts where you are!
Certified fitness instructor Shauni Hawkins leads us in virtual low-impact cardio and strength-training classes. Let’s get your heart rate up with low-impact aerobic exercises, and add strength and balance training for a fun and sweaty full body workout! We’ll finish with an energizing stretch so you’re ready to tackle the rest of your day.
Join us for a mobility practice, essential to improving strength, stamina and flexibility, led by certified instructor, Denise Dohanic. Mobility increases blood flow to the muscles and is a critical aspect of function that affects overall quality of life. Learn how to increase your range of motion, relieve tight muscles, ensure good posture and athletic form, and even prevent injury.
Join AARP Colorado for a virtual low-impact kickboxing class in the comfort of your own home, led by certified fitness instructor Krista Bonino. This kickboxing class is designed to boost your fitness, enhance your mental stamina and leave you feeling empowered. Krista guides us in low-impact cardio workouts that combine the best of martial arts, strength training and brain-boosting exercises, all important to healthy aging.
Join certified fitness instructor Shauni Hawkins for a fun virtual Barre Fusion class incorporating aspects of ballet, Pilates, yoga and strength training. The class will combine small, isolated movements with larger ranges of motion for a high-intensity, low-impact workout to improve muscle endurance, core strength, posture, balance and flexibility.
Certified fitness instructor Krista Bonino leads this functional fitness training program that works your entire body. These strength exercises will target the basic movements of daily life: pushing, pulling, squatting, hinging, lunging and rotation. For this workout, all you need is your own body weight and a little room to move. You’ll engage your core, challenge your balance and try out different ways to “Get After It!”
In a major victory for consumers, the Colorado Public Utilities Commission (PUC) lowered Xcel’s return on equity (ROE) from its current 9.83 percent to 9.3 percent effective January 1, 2020, based on the position of AARP and other interveners in the company’s latest electric rate case.
