TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Today, AARP Florida released its 2025 legislative priorities, emphasizing the importance of accessible and affordable housing options for all ages, the need to enhance long-term services and supports, and increase consumer protections as top priorities for the AARP advocacy team and volunteers.

As your advocate, AARP Florida is committed to ensuring fair and reasonable rates for FPL customers, with a particular focus on protecting older adults on fixed incomes from excessive financial strain. We will keep consumers updated throughout this process.

AARP Florida Announces Rapid Community Project Grants

Last week, Miami welcomed AARP Chief Public Policy Officer and author Debra Whitman for two inspiring events focused on her book, The Second Fifty: Answers to the 7 Big Questions of Midlife and Beyond.

Twelve entities in Florida received AARP Community Challenge grants this year, for a total of $101,920, with many projects focused on accessibility and safety.

AARP Florida’s Executive Council is pleased to announce the appointment of two new volunteers, Kip Corriveau and Frank Wells, who bring a wealth of experience and enthusiasm to their new roles.

ORLANDO, Fla. – Lydia Rivera, lead AARP Orlando volunteer and organizer of AARP’s Walk with a Doc initiative in Kissimmee has been elected as Walk with a Doc’s newest member of their Board of Directors. Rivera, a retired, bilingual nurse practitioner of over 40 years, has hosted walks since January of this year and made a huge contribution to improving the health and wellness of the 50+ community in Central Florida.

November is National Family Caregivers Month, a time dedicated to recognizing and honoring the selfless work of caregivers across the country. This month highlights the challenges faced by family caregivers, celebrates their dedication, and raises awareness about the support they need. Whether caring for an aging parent, a child with special needs, or a loved one with a chronic illness, caregivers play a crucial role in providing comfort and stability.
