Happy New Year!
At AARP Florida, our mission is to empower people to choose how they live as they age. This guiding principle drives everything we do—from advocating for meaningful policy changes to equipping individuals with the tools and resources they need to thrive.
Throughout 2025, AARP Florida will be focusing on a broad range of priorities aimed at improving the lives of 50+ Floridians and their families. This year’s Legislative Session begins in March, and our team of staff and volunteer advocates is working to ensure these critical issues are prioritized at both state and local levels. Our efforts include enhancing nursing home quality by addressing staffing standards, increasing nursing home staff training, and enforcing regulations more rigorously. We’re advocating for the strengthening of Social Security, ensuring that this fundamental building block for a secure retirement remains strong for you and your family. We are also pushing for policies that improve your local community, supporting initiatives to increase housing affordability and availability, provide safer and more reliable transportation options, and improve disaster preparation.
Fraud prevention remains at the forefront of our agenda, with a focus on encouraging local law enforcement to designate one or more full-time positions to address fraud, exploitation, and crimes against older adults. In addition, the AARP Florida Fraud Resource Center is here to equip you with tools and resources to safeguard yourself and your loved ones. Fighting fraud is one way we can help build safer, stronger communities for everyone.
To help us in these and other efforts, please consider volunteering. You can learn more at aarp.com/flvolunteer. Here’s to a year full of health, safety, and new opportunities! Together, we have the power to create lasting change for the 50+ community.
