Have you been looking to get involved in your community? Want to impact others but don't know where to start? Learn how to get involved with your community this year by attending our one day Leadership Academy. A training where you can gather the tools to exercise your leadership, and be the influencer you are meant to be!!
Now in its seventh year, DESTINO teaches its students the necessary skills to be effective communicators, successful entrepreneurs and all-around leaders who can bring about positive social change in their communities.
The focus of the DESTINO Leadership academy is to provide an introduction to practical tools, leadership development and multi-disciplinary learning opportunities to promote the participation of multi-cultural community members in areas of social impact and collaborative influence.
“We want to create positive social impact that will make our community a better place to live, where people can age with dignity and purpose,” said Ivonne Fernandez, Associate State Director of AARP Florida and creator of the DESTINO Academy.
This year’s key note speaker will be Rawle Andrews Jr., Esq. Mr. Andrews is a regional vice president for AARP, the largest non-profit organization advocating for the rights and interests of persons 50 and older in the United States. The plenary workshop, Made in the USA: Ready-Set-Vote focuses on the basics of civic engagement and getting involved in the community to make your voice heard. This workshop, presented by AARP Florida Advocacy Expert, Zayne Smith, will cover the political landscape in Florida and what you can do to be heard.
Sponsors include AARP, United Way of Miami Dade, Miami Dade College, and Radio La Nueva. Many of these same organizations and other community allies like La Familia de Broward and Toastmasters International are collaborating with different resources to build an effective agenda and ensure that DESTINO is a great success.
“When AARP works with community allies to equip people with the tools they need to achieve real possibilities in their communities, we are really fulfilling the mission Dr. Andrus set for us when she spoke of ‘an army of useful citizens’,” said Fernandez.
DESTINO will have different sessions, including "Stand Up & Speak Out": Communications Workshop, "Stand Up & Lead": Leadership Workshop, "Stand Up & Stand Out Through Social Media": Workshop and "Stand Up & Market your Cause": Marketing Workshop.
