AARP Florida Legislative Voting Record: AARP Florida legislative voting record provides detailed information on how your legislator voted on support for living independently, assisted-living facility reform and other key issues.

Finding out how your state legislators voted in the 2014 Legislature just got easier, with the release today of AARP Florida’s third annual Legislative Voting Record, AARP Florida State Director Jeff Johnson said today.

The AARP Florida legislative voting record contains detailed information on legislators’ votes on a range of key issues important to voters 50+, including state support for services for family caregivers and care recipients; reform of oversight of assisted living facilities; and fraud protection, Johnson said.

“Florida voters 50+ wield strong influence in nearly all elections in Florida,” said Johnson, noting that voters 50+ cast more than 40 percent of all ballots in a typical Florida election.

“But to hold your state House or Senate member accountable, you need to know how they voted on key issues. AARP Florida offers its Legislative Voting Record to make it easier for you to track legislators’ decisions on key issues in each year’s legislative session.”

During the 2014 session, AARP alerted legislators that AARP would consider their votes on certain proposals to be key votes for the 2014 voting record. And because key legislative decisions often occur during the long process of legislative consideration of a bill, the voting record tracks legislative committees’ actions and final House and Senate votes.

AARP’s Florida advocates worked hard to track down votes on key issues ranging from increasing personal need allowances for nursing home residents to cracking down on the sometimes shocking abuse that has occurred in assisted living facilities in past years. The 2014 voting record can be found here: www.aarp.org/flvotingrecord2014 .

“By keeping tabs on the entire legislative life of bills selected for the voting guide, we are able to get a clearer look at the 2014 legislative session,” Johnson said. “Legislators know we’re watching.”

Updates on legislative voting records may be posted on the AARP Florida webpage at www.aarp.org/fl. In addition, AARP Florida may share updates with its hundreds of thousands of Florida members who are e-activists.
