Making a More Age-Friendly State

Florida State Enrollment Certificate.png

The Sunshine State is on a mission: to make Florida a more accessible place to live for residents of every generation.

By joining the AARP Network of Age-Friendly States and Communities, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) has committed Florida to becoming more livable in eight areas: transportation, housing, public spaces, social inclusion, civic participation, social activities, community and health services, and communication.

Each locality decides on the livable goals to pursue, such as creating safer intersections, making streets walkable or improving access to services and transportation.

The network is part of the World Health Organization’s Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Program (aarp.org/agefriendly). So far, 29 Florida localities are in the network.
