Join us Oct. 24 for AARP's Get Ready for Retirement event!

Are you ready for retirement? AARP Arkansas is hosting an event on Saturday, October 24 to help you answer that question and prepare for your next chapter.

This FREE event is titled Get Ready for Retirement: Retirement has Real Possibilities, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Park Plaza Mall, 6000 W. Markham St. in Little Rock.

"We know that, for some people, retirement is an overwhelming concept," said AARP Arkansas volunteer Talmadge Harbison of Hensley. "It’s a transition that you need to prepare for. Your routine and schedule changes. You have to adjust to no longer getting a regular paycheck. There’s a lot to consider. We want to show that there are some amazing possibilities in retirement to find things that you are passionate about, meet new people and re-imagine your life."

The event will feature exhibitors, special speakers and hourly prize drawings. Participants will learn more about volunteer opportunities in their community; discover new hobbies or activities that, in retirement, they now have time for; get information about classes they can take; and even learn about starting their own business.

There also will be panel discussions on Health and Wellness, Paying for Retirement and Estate Planning at 9:30 a.m., then repeating at 11:30 a.m.

"We encourage anyone who is currently thinking about retirement, or contemplating a transition in their work life, to attend," Talmadge said.
