Kansas Voters Also Oppose Efforts to Raise Fixed Monthly Costs for Electric and Gas Service
If you’re a Westar Energy customer, are you ready to see your utility bills go up? That’s what’s going to happen if the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC) grants Westar’s request for a $152 million (almost 8%) annual rate increase. Residential customers with average monthly consumption of 900 kilowatt hours of electricity would have an average monthly increase of $13.
WASHINGTON, DC — The following is a statement by AARP CEO Jo Ann Jenkins on today’s ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court:
AARP Kansas is encouraging customers of Kansas City Power and Light (KCP&L) who live in Kansas to make their voices heard about the proposed rate hike the company has requested be approved by the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC).
AARP Kansas continues to urge Kansas legislators to pass the Caregiver Advise, Record, Enable (CARE) Act to support the more than 605,000 caregivers in our state who provide care to their loved ones, enabling them to continue living at home. AARP’s Capital City Task Force (CCTF) members, led by volunteer Judy Bellome and AARP Kansas Advocacy Director Ernie Kutzley, have been spending hours at the Kansas Statehouse talking to legislators, administration officials and representatives of other organizations, including the Kansas Hospital Association, in efforts to garner support for the legislation.
The location for the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC)public hearing on the the Kansas City Power & Light (KCP &L) rate increase request has been changed. The public hearing will now take place on May 18, 2015 at 6:00 p.m. at the KU Edwards Campus, BEST Conference Center, 12604 Quivira Road, Overland Park, KS 66213. Earlier the location had been set for Olathe Northwest High School in Olathe.
On Monday, March 2, 2015, Westar Energy filed for a $152 million rate increase with the Kansas Corporation Commission (KCC).
