AARP Kansas hosted its annual Advocacy Day—affectionately known as Cookie Day—at the Kansas Statehouse. This event brings volunteers together to meet with legislators, share cookies, and most importantly, discuss issues that matter to Kansans age 50 and older.

Building great communities takes time – but small, tangible improvements can spark lasting change. That’s the idea behind the AARP Community Challenge, a grant program launched in 2017 to support quick-action projects that enhance livability nationwide.
In the early 1900s, the Greenwood neighborhood of Tulsa, Oklahoma, now called "Black Wall Street," was a vibrant and prosperous community. Despite the challenges and racial injustices they faced, residents of this community built a thriving neighborhood filled with successful Black-owned businesses, attorneys, doctors, and real estate agents. Their achievements were nothing short of remarkable and served as a beacon of hope for Black Americans nationwide.

Women's History Month is underway, and we're excited to celebrate the ground-breaking contributions of amazing women to communities nationwide. Originating as Women's History Week in 1981, March was officially dedicated to honoring women's achievements in 1987. And AARP joins in the nation in celebrating women for their leadership, mentoring, and dedication to their communities in ways that have changed the course of history.
AARP Kansas has selected 18 advocates from across the state to receive fellowships to participate in the 2023 Kansas State Walking College.
AARP Kansas Legislative Priorities in 2023
Many Kansas residents are seeing a significant increase in their utility bills this winter. This spike in energy costs has left many unable to pay their utility bills.
AARP Foundation Tax-Aide is providing free in-person and virtual tax assistance and preparation now through April 18, 2023. The nation’s largest free, volunteer-based tax assistance and preparation program helped secure more than $1 billion in refunds for more than 1.2 million taxpayers last year. Tax-Aide is offered in conjunction with the IRS, and AARP membership is not required.
