A new AARP survey, released in conjunction with Social Security’s 90th anniversary, confirms that Americans highly value Social Security, and even more so than five years ago. The vast majority of Americans – 95% of Republicans, 98% of Democrats, and 93% of Independents – consider Social Security vital to the financial security of all Americans, and 67% believe it is even more important for retirees than it was five years ago.

AARP has released the August Nursing Home COVID-19 Dashboard, which tracks nursing home data including cases as well as resident and staff vaccination rates, and the news is alarming with COVID-19 cases increasing among staff and residents. In the four weeks ending August 22, 2021, the number of new nursing home resident cases of COVID-19 increased to 176, more than five times as many as the previous month. The number of new staff cases jumped during the same time period to 336, more than four times as many as reported in the previous dashboard.
The Pleasanton Lincoln Library in Linn County will receive a 2021 livable community grant from AARP Kansas to create a private area within the library to allow older residents and their families access to a computer.
Wichita’s Sunnyside Neighborhood Association will receive a 2021 livable community grant from AARP Kansas to make improvements to the Grandparents Park located at Kellogg and Estelle. Sunnyside will implement a quick-action project to add picnic tables and landscaping to the park which was developed in 2013 by Sunnyside, the Central Plains Area Agency on Aging, the City of Wichita and AARP Kansas.
Topeka, KS – Cases of COVID rose significantly among Kansas nursing home staff and residents over the four weeks ending July 18, according to the latest release of AARP’s Nursing Home COVID-19 Dashboard.
